Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for completing the scope of work for their assigned client engagements in an accurate and timely manner. The successful ACCOUNTANT will maintain effective working relationships with their clients’ primary contacts as well as execute the DECO Accounting Services business model as documented in the standard operation procedures. The ACCOUNTANT is to work up to the “Expected Average Number of Hours Per Week” as defined in the Offer Letter or otherwise modified and mutually agreed upon between the ACCOUNTANT and their ACCOUNTING MANAGER based on their scheduled Client Hours. The “Expected Average Number of Hours Per Week” is documented in DECO’s practice management system.

Each ACCOUNTANT will ramp up to their “Expected Average Number of Hours per Week” as they are scheduled on client engagements to match their hours requirements. Client engagements will be assigned to the ACCOUNTANT as they complete on-the-job training until the expected weekly hours are reached; additional engagements will subsequently be assigned to the ACCOUNTANT to replace any reduction from terminated or reduced client engagements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record day-to-day financial transactions using accounting software

  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable

  • Generate financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements

  • Maintain and update general ledger

  • Support CPA with year-end tax prep

  • Communicate regularly with clients or internal teams to address discrepancies or provide updates

  • Coordinate payroll or interface with payroll provider (if applicable)

  • Provide audit support and documentation as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications of the position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to provide detailed level bookkeeping support – accounts payable, accounts receivable, closing books on a monthly basis, and preparing financial reporting and analysis for small businesses

  • 1+ years of transactional accounting experience using accounting software for/in a professional organization.

  • QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Level 1 certification

  • Capacity to work 20-30 hours a week during daytime business hours supporting clients.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.

  • Willingness to consistently and accurately follow established policies and procedures.

  • Confidence in learning and embracing new technology to solve client issues

  • Experience in developing strong remote team relationships based on trust, accountability, integrity, and sharing of best practices.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed remotely on a part-time basis during normal business hours on a schedule mutually agreed upon between the ACCOUNTANT and their Manager. The ACCOUNTANT should have dedicated office space, free from distraction and a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
